Last two regular services were done: 10 months ago (air filter was clean back then), and last service was done 5 months ago.

The start-stop will start working for a while until it learns that the battery isn't holding enough capacity to function again. The fix is to have a healthy battery fitted by Ford. The cure is to have an uprated AGM battery fitted. I suspect the stock EFB battery fitted to the mk4 was always under spec for the demand.

Tried a new battery, tried bending the contacts to the battery up a bit..nothing. Just got home. After I got out of my car, I tried it again, still didn't work.
The fact of the matter is you now require a new engine and you will be extremely unlikely to get anyone to make any kind of financial contribution for the replacement. A brand new Ford 1.0 Ecoboost engine can be bought from Puma Speed for around £1999. They also offer a supply and fit of a new engine for about £2999 but of course you will JPclCgz.
